To land before Black Friday, approve your postcard proof by Wed 21 Oct and drop it at the post office by Tue 10 Nov. For December promotions, approve proofs by about Mon 9 Nov and drop by Fri 27 Nov. No date here is guaranteed, so treat each one as the latest safe point, not a target.
This article is part of our guide to how to create a direct mail campaign.
This holiday direct mail calendar works backward from the 2026 shopping dates. It uses standard production of 10 to 14 business days. It also plans for the slow end of Marketing Mail delivery. Business days here mean Monday to Friday.
Sean Griffin prepared this calendar on 13 October 2026. He owns Cornerstone Services, Inc. (CRST) in Saugerties, NY, and is a USPS-certified Mailpiece Design Professional (MDP). CRST has served Ulster, Dutchess and Orange counties since 1998.
When should I mail Black Friday postcards in 2026?
Drop Black Friday postcards at the post office by Tue 10 Nov. At the slow end of Marketing Mail, that plan has them in homes by Tue 24 Nov, three days before Black Friday on Fri 27 Nov. With standard production of 10 to 14 business days, approve your proof by about Wed 21 Oct.
The math runs backward from the day you want customers to see your card. Tue 24 Nov is two days before Thanksgiving on Thu 26 Nov.
Marketing Mail typically arrives 3 to 10 business days after it enters the mail. Plan for 10. Count back 10 business days from Tue 24 Nov, and you reach Tue 10 Nov.
Production comes before the drop. Standard production runs 10 to 14 business days from proof approval to the post office. Count back 14 business days from Tue 10 Nov, and you reach Wed 21 Oct.
If you are reading this in mid-October, that proof date is about a week away. Start the design now.
Watch for Veterans Day
Veterans Day falls on Wed 11 Nov, the day after the drop. It is a postal holiday with no regular delivery. That can add a day to delivery. Even with that extra day, the plan still lands before Black Friday.
Do not treat Tue 10 Nov as a goal. It is the latest drop date in the plan. A drop after it leaves no room for a slow week.
Does Small Business Saturday need its own mail date?
No. Small Business Saturday is Sat 28 Nov, the day after Black Friday. The same plan covers both. Drop by Tue 10 Nov and approve proofs by about Wed 21 Oct. One postcard can promote Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday on Mon 30 Nov, so you print and mail once.
The 2026 holiday weekend runs from Thu 26 Nov to Mon 30 Nov. It holds Thanksgiving, Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday.
A single card with one weekend offer keeps the schedule simple. You approve one proof and make one drop.
You can also send a separate card for each day. Each card then needs its own proof approved by about Wed 21 Oct. Each one also needs to drop by Tue 10 Nov.
When should I mail December holiday postcards?
For holiday promotions in homes by Fri 11 Dec, drop your postcards by Fri 27 Nov. With standard production, approve your proof by about Mon 9 Nov. That plan uses the slow end of Marketing Mail, 10 business days. It leaves two weeks before Christmas on Fri 25 Dec.
Fri 11 Dec puts your offer in homes before the last two weekends before Christmas.
Two postal holidays fall inside this window. Veterans Day is Wed 11 Nov and Thanksgiving is Thu 26 Nov. Either one can add a day. Approve your proof before Mon 9 Nov if you can.
The December drop date is Black Friday itself. Your December cards go into the mail while your Black Friday cards are already in homes.
What does the 2026 holiday direct mail calendar look like?
The calendar has two windows. The Black Friday window runs from proof approval on Wed 21 Oct to cards in homes by Tue 24 Nov. The December window runs from proof approval on Mon 9 Nov to cards in homes by Fri 11 Dec. Both assume standard production and 10 business days of Marketing Mail.

How long does Marketing Mail take to arrive?
USPS Marketing Mail typically arrives 3 to 10 business days after it enters the mail. It is not guaranteed. It is the class most promotional postcards use. First-Class Mail has a service standard of 1 to 5 days. This calendar plans for the 10-day upper end of Marketing Mail to leave room for slow delivery.
Plan for the slow end. If cards arrive early, customers see your offer sooner. If you plan for the fast end and delivery runs slow, your cards can land after the sale.
Postal holidays do not count as delivery days. When one falls inside your window, add a day.
What is the USPS holiday mailing deadline for 2026?
USPS recommends sending by Thu 17 Dec for USPS Ground Advantage and First-Class Mail, Fri 18 Dec for Priority Mail and Sat 19 Dec for Priority Mail Express. Those dates aim for delivery by Christmas, Fri 25 Dec, in the contiguous U.S. They are recommendations, not guarantees, and they do not cover Marketing Mail.
USPS announced the dates on 23 September 2026, as reported by Gray News.
The send-by dates apply to cards and packages. A holiday card to a client fits. A promotional postcard sent as Marketing Mail does not.
Do not use Thu 17 Dec as the deadline for a Marketing Mail promotion. At the 10-business-day upper end, a card dropped that day would arrive after Christmas.
Postal holidays in the 2026 season
Three postal holidays have no regular delivery this season. They are Wed 11 Nov (Veterans Day), Thu 26 Nov (Thanksgiving) and Fri 25 Dec (Christmas). When one falls inside a mailing window, it can add a day.
FAQ
What if I miss the Wed 21 Oct proof date for Black Friday?
Ask about rush production. CRST’s rush time is 5 to 7 business days from proof approval to the post office, against 10 to 14 for standard. The Tue 10 Nov drop date does not move, so rush only shortens the production step. If that still does not fit, move the offer to the December window.
Are the USPS holiday send-by dates guaranteed?
No. USPS calls them recommended send-by dates for delivery by Fri 25 Dec in the contiguous U.S. They cover USPS Ground Advantage, First-Class Mail, Priority Mail and Priority Mail Express. They do not apply to Marketing Mail, the class most promotional postcards use.
Why plan for 10 business days if Marketing Mail can arrive in 3?
Marketing Mail typically takes 3 to 10 business days, and it is not guaranteed. Planning for the upper end leaves room for slow delivery. If you plan for 3 days and delivery takes 10, your postcards can land after the sale.
Do I need a mailing list to send holiday postcards?
No. Every Door Direct Mail (EDDM) lets you saturate a neighborhood without a mailing list. It fits a shop or restaurant that wants to reach the homes around it. See what EDDM costs per piece. Build its proof and drop dates the same way, backward from the day you want cards in homes.
